Theo Jansen is the Dutch creator of what he calls “Kinetic Sculptures,” where nature and technology meet. Essentially these sculptures are robots powered by the wind only. Introducing Giorgio Sans

You think you’ve seen tall x-heights until you see Giorgio Sans. Commissioned for the New York Times T Magazine, this one screams high fashion. Created by the very talented Christian Schwartz of Commercial Type NY, who in 2007, was awarded the prestigious Prix Charles Peignot. I’m only hoping that fashion titles will drop their tired and overused Didones in favour of this modern, elegant, slim, clean, and tall, beautifully drawn display face. The titling alternates (though there are just a few — rounded forms of C, D, G, O, Q; and a higher contrast G & Q) really give the face extended versatility. They work beautifully to punctuate, to let in a little extra light. With six weights, this will certainly find applications outside of high fashion.

My only surprise is that there aren’t any weights heavier than bold — would like to see how they might work. Perhaps it was tried and eliminated? Despite its leanness and cleanness, Giorgio Sans has enough carefully crafted details to resist frigidity, and sing sweet songs on the page. And a serif accompaniment? Easy! Try its sister Giorgio.

We love things that are a little avant-garde; a little quirky around here. So when we found these rather mundane objects had been given a new form of ‘coolness’ we couldn’t help but want one… or all of them!

Fire extinguishers – every home with a bad chef should have one, a mans best friend, all little boys wanted to become fire men, didn’t they?. To combine practicality with aesthetics, designers have recreated the humble fire extinguisher into a stylish, fashionable feature item suitable for any home or office!

Today we bring to you, the incredible art of Erika Iris Simmons, @iri5 on twitter, go ahead and follow her. Simmons, also know as Iris, is a 26 year old, self-taught artist who resides in Georgia and has a Degree in Russian, has a love for breathing life into the discarded.

Her works are noted for their unique and innovative style that focuses on recycling found materials, such as old cassettes, video tapes and used books. These unique materials make her work an excellent choice for a wide range of projects and purposes. Iris’s art has also been featured in newspapers and magazines all over the world.
